''''Adjectives and adverbs in Esperanto''''

The key to reading Esperanto is to look carefully at the word endings.

-o = noun

-a = adjective

-e = adverb

An adjective is used to describe a noun.br>
An adverb is used to describe a verb. English adverbs often (but not invariably) end in -ly.

The usual grammatical terminology is that adjectives modify nouns, while adverbs modify verbs.

ĵaŭda, e.g. niaj ĵaŭdaj kunvenoj = our Thursday meetings

ĵaŭde = on Thursdays

aŭtobusa = connected with buses, e.g. aŭtobusaj biletoj = bus tickets

aŭtobuse = in the manner of a bus, by bus: ni iros aŭtobuse = we’ll go by bus
